Don’t Share Nuts with Fido

For humans, nuts are a terrific source of protein and fibers. nut2Some nuts, like walnuts and macadamia nuts, however, are toxic to dogs. In general, dogs should be given nuts because the high phosphorus content in nuts can predispose to the development of bladder stones.

Nut and seed butters wonderful sources of healthy energy. Unlike animal sources of protein that can be high in saturated fats that are linked to heart disease, nut/seed butters are high in healthier unsaturated fats. If you’re bored with the same old peanut butter sandwiches you had as a child, spice up your routine with different nut/seed butters. My favorites are almond butter and sunflower seed butter. Sunflower seed butter is a bit sweet and tastes delicious on bananas (or even just a spoon!).
