Wanna Reduce Your Breast Cancer Risk? Drink Some Milk and Take Fido for a Sunny Walk

Sticking with the breast cancer prevention theme this week, thought you might be interested in a soon-to-be published study in the journal Breast Cancer Research and Treatment.

Chen and colleagues analyzed data from a large sample of previously published studies to look for interactions between intake of vitamin D and calcium and risk of breast cancer. This analysis showed that high intake of calcium and vitamin D each substantially reduced breast cancer risk.

Compared with women with low intake of either calcium or vitamin D:

    - women with high intake of calcium decreased breast cancer risk by 19%
    - women with a high vitamin D decreased breast cancer risk by 9%

So grab a glass of milk and cup of yogurt for a healthy snack, then take Fido out for a walk in the sun for an extra boost of vitamin D.
